Hi lrn4lf,

is this a feature request? I'm not sure what your question is... Could you elaborate a little?

Yes, I guess it would be a feature request, if it can't be done with inkscape already. This would be great for inkscape, being that inkscape will give the artist great control on how the glyph look... and also something that inkscape could be use for. If you know of any bitmap font generator that could do unicode like the poop, please share with me. And even so if there is one, I believe inkscape would be great for this.

As far as I know, there are two functionalities in Inkscape that help you to create vector fonts:
Text -> SVG font editor
and
Extensions -> Typography
(the latter doesn't seem to work properly, though, in my experience)

I'm not sure if the creation of bitmap fonts is in the scope of the program, but you could try to make a feature request in the bug section (https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape) if you would like to see the feature, to see what the developers say about this. Maybe someone who will some day take a look at that extension might like to add that extra feature.

Kind regards,

AFAIK fontforge does support creating bitmap fonts (though to the best of my knowledge its strengths are vector-based fonts mainly).

TBH I do wonder why you'd want a vector graphics drawing application like Inkscape (with was neither designed nor intended as specialized font creation and font editing software, nor does have any advanced raster graphics editing features) to implement support for creating _bitmap_ _fonts_ (fonts which by the way are not usable in Inkscape itself either - Inkscape cannot use bitmap fonts for text objects on-canvas). I'd also be interested in future prospects of the usage of bitmap fonts in times where general focus seems to shift to web fonts (@font-face) and multi-colored vector-based fonts.

I would also recommend to first discuss this with other Inkscape developers on the 'inkscape-devel' mailing list ...

I think inkscape would be a great tool for glyph design for bitmap font for the web using game framework or any program that allow you to use bitmap font.

Can you help with this problem?
