Inverting negative to a pic

Asked by Ant

I am scanning old negatives and was a Picasa user. However, Picasa no longer pics up new scans, so after exploring discovered Inkscape as an alternative to image editing.

I am not a professional but have done quite a lot of editing over the year but, as with all new editing software, am a bit lost, especially re terminology in a more professional software.

I can see 'negative' in the help but it does not really tell me where to find the actual action.

Please help.

Hi Ant,

I think you might be looking for a raster graphics editor, not a vector graphics editor like Inkscape. Raster graphics are images like photos, that consist of dots in different colors, while vector graphics consist of mathematical descriptions of curves and objects, that in the end, build an image together.

You will probably be happier with an editor like the Gimp (http://gimp.org), which is made for editing photos and also has the functionality you are looking for (Inkscape has that, too, but it's a little too much overhead to use it for this purpose).

Kind regards,
 Maren

Thank you. You could be right but, as mentioned, I am not an expert and used to simple software. Mind you, it looks interesting and has some of the attributes of Micrografx Picture Publisher which, of course, is no longer available unless I buy the Corel version as they took over!

Picasa did it easily, but I believe it has some serious issues these days, so not just me!

I changed to a mac in 2013 and that has been an interesting experience and not an easy one!

Can you help with this problem?
