I have been asked to change some text to 100% black rather than CMYK. How do I do this?

Asked by Dave Hill

I have created a file which contains only text. This will be used by a print supplier to provide me with printed labels. The print supplier has asked me to change the text to 100% black rather than CMYK. How do I do this?

Hi Dave,

short answer: in the CMYK color tab, make K and Alpha 100%, and set everything else to 0% to get pure black instead of a black-ish color created from mixing all the colors.

I'm not sure if this is enough, though. Just in case it isn't:

Details about how to work in CMYK/color managed mode with Inkscape:
Inkscape has a few limitations regarding CMYK colorspace currently. CMYK colors are saved in the SVG, if created with CMYK colors. AFAIK it does not offer support to export these colors into another file format.

Presumably, your printer will want tiff, pdf or eps, in the correct colorspace - which Inkscape cannot create.

You will need a desktop publishing program to get a good printer-friendly pdf, for example the free and open source Scribus (http://scribus.net).

Read this article: http://libregraphicsworld.org/blog/entry/getting-cmyk-colors-from-inkscape-to-scribus
for a good guide about how to do this.

Kind regards,
 Maren
