I try to trace bitmap and the extra screen doesnt pop up.

Hello,
I was using inkscape and i changed one file to an SVG and then when i tried to do another one, the pop up screen would not pop up when i clicked on trace bitmap. I have tried several different pictures and it still doesnt work. I am trying to change this picture into an SVG without layers. I click on path, on trace bitmap, and nothing changes. The extra screen never pops up.

Hi Phranalia,

this may be a problem with dockable dialogs.

Take a look at the right side of the Inkscape window, directly right to the scrollbar. Is there a small icon or text you can click on?
If not: minimize the Inkscape main window. Is the dialog maybe behind the Inkscape window?

You can change these behaviours by choosing the old, no longer default, floating dialogs via Menu:
Edit -> Preferences -> Interface -> Windows

Set dockable to floating, and if necessary, also play with the 'dialogs on top' option and the dialog transparency settings (set them both to 1 for opacity, if you do not like vanishing dialogs when they loose focus).

It may be that also the Preferences dialog appears as an icon in the dock at the right of the right scrollbar.

If this does not help, please tell us about your operating system and Inkscape version.
