How to create text boxes that show depth perspective

Asked by Thri Cipio

Need to create text that can be overlaid onto a background item, which itself, shows depth perspective.  For example, let's say a background image contains a signpost whose directional placard is presented in perspective (obviously some type of trapezoid).  I'd like to be able to overlay text onto the placard, such that it would reflect the perspective of the placard.

I'm hoping the procedure for this is relatively straight-forward, since my Inkscape skills are still rather rudimentary.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Thri Cipio,

there's an extension, called Perspective, for this.
Find it at Extensions -> Modify Path -> Perspective

Explanation here:
http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Extensions-ModifyPath.html#Extensions-Perspective (technical, but detailed),

or here:
ttp://goinkscape.com/using-perspective-for-3d-in-inkscape/ (easy, but doesn't accout for pitfalls).

Sometimes you end up with your text being turned upside down, or rotated by 90 degrees.
In this case, draw another rectangle manually, and start drawing with a different corner, until you get the correct result. The order of the nodes on the rectangle matters. The first link explains this in some detail.
