New User - Installation issue on Mac

Asked by savnrmemries

I just completed installation of X11 (ver 1.1.3) and Inkscape (.45) onto my iMac PowerPC G5 10.4.11. When I click on the Inkscape icon in the applications folder I get menu items for both X11 and for Inkscape, but no windows ever open and the Inkscape Menu is blank. Basically all that is in the Inkscape menu is INKSCAPE with the options of Services, Hide Inkscape, Hide Others, Show all (greyed out), and Quit Inkscape. Can anyone help me here please. I've installed and reinstalled these files several times and obviously there is something that I'm missing.

Thank you for any help ...
Diana

No answer, but a similar problem but on 10.3.9. Inkscape refuses to even find the newly installed X11 + updates and insists I download. Is this a generic problem?

Apologies - I was under the impression X11 was installed with Developer tools from the DVD. Apparently it isn't.
I went to http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/x11formacosx.html and downloaded & installed. Now X11 and Inkscape launch through the Inkscape icon with the workspace opening after several seconds delay.

Can you help with this problem?
