No keys.svg file in inkscape 0.46?

Asked by alnilam

In older inkscape Versions (e.g. 0.43) there used to be a file called keys.svg in the inkscape/share/screens directory. It was accessible via inkscape menu Help->Key and Mouse (or similar). Now in 0.46 I only get a html file that opens in the browser instead of the svg file that opened in inkscape. I also can't find a keys.svg file in my inkscape folder. Doesn't this file exist anymore for newer versions of inkscape?

We decided that the growing size of the file makes SVG format unmanageable. It's much easier to search in the browser, anyway. However, both HTML and SVG versions are created automatically from the same XML source, and if you need the SVG, you can generate it yourself. In the doc/ subdirectory, do this:

xsltproc keys-svg.xsl keys.xml > keys.svg

or read keys.README there for more details. Note that the columns in the SVG were balanced manually, and since this format was not maintained for a long time, they are now rather uneven :)

Thanks for the quick answer! I will try and create the file myself. It's true, searching in a browser is easier, but I really liked the pan-and-zoom idea with the large svg file.
