align & distribute or ctrl+a+shift will not work

Asked by Kent Collins

I have version 0.91 Inkscape and using Firefox browser. I am not able to use the align and distribute icon. Will not come up. I have tried uninstalling Inkscape and reinstalling it. I also tried crtl+shift+A and that does not work. It did work once before but not sure if I was using version 0.48 then. Other tools take awhile to come up but align does not at all now. Appreciate any help. Thanks.

Just trying to align a rectangle with the page. The rectangle was selected and the align icon will not produce the page to do various aligning.

When you say "align and distribute icon" I guess you must mean the dialog, where you can click on various icon/button. Just want to be sure, because sometimes words aren't translated correctly.

Since 0.91, all or almost all dialogs seem to be docked, by default. Maybe it's docked? Look along the right side of the canvas, between the canvas and Snap control bar. It might be nothing more than a little text ("Align and Distribute....") turned sideways. Click on that, and the dialog will open.

I'm not sure if this has been fixed. It probably has, but just in case. If you had undocked it, at some time in the past, it might be opening outside the screen. But before we go into the instructions for that, tell me if you can find it in the docking area. :-)

That was the problem. I had several "docked" turned sideways on the right hand side. Thanks a lot Brynn.
