Hi Joseph,

probably your image is not centered on the page in Inkscape. (Those grey borders you see on the canvas are the area which gets printed. If you don't see any page borders, activate them here: File -> document properties -> first tab bottom: Display: Check 'Show page border')

What you might need to do:

1. Set Page size: in File -> Document Properties, set a page size (A4 in your case)

2. Center picture on page: Select the picture, and then use the Align and Distribute Dialog (Shift + Ctrl + A) to center it on the page (Dropdown: Relative to Page, then center vertically and horizontally by clicking on the respective buttons in the dialog)

3. The print dialog is currently very simple, this is a known problem: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/178232 - print preview wish: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/171099. You can add yourself to the supporters of these bugs, to show to developers that this is important to you. Note that some properties of that dialog also depend on your printer driver.

 Maren
