Hi DBergendorf,

this depends on what the content is you want to erase.

1) If it is a single object:
Select it, and hit Del or Ctrl+X

2) If it is a part of a path (and you want to keep the rest of the path):
Use the node tool (F1) to shape the path or to delete nodes (select them and hit Ctrl+X or Del), or use the boolean operations to delete parts of the path. Or use Path -> Break apart to sever the path into small chunks, then delete the ones you don't want.

3) if it is some object inside a group:
Ungroup first, then delete as in 1)

4.) If it is part of a raster image:
Find out more about clippings and masks or use a raster graphics editor.

5.) If it is a group of objects, and you want to keep parts of it, but those do not all pertain to the same object:
see 4 or 3.

The eraser tool in Inskcape makes either linear holes into the object you selected while you draw a line with it, or it can delete the whole object at once, depending on the settings chosen in the tool bar. This only works with to path objects.

If all these options are not what you meant, then please give us more details ;) (if you prefer, you can also write in German)

Regards,
 Maren
