page color is gray: how do i return it to white or clear?

The background/page color switched to gray and i have been unsuccefull about returning it to white or clear? I've searched for fixes in help and online, but nothing has worked.

Hi Fred,

go to File -> Document properties, and at the bottom of the first tab, set the background color to the value you want (usually transparent or white)
This will only affect how the document looks while you are editing it with Inkscape and has no effect at all for export or viewing the file with a browser.
