have imported file, unable to get eraser to work at the line intersections

Asked by Helen

Have imported a line drawing which has many intersecting lines. I am trying to use the eraser to blank out the intersecting lines, so I can import the file into Brother SNC Canvas, but unable to get it to work. When I click on the eraser button, and then go to the drawing, it changes to red on the spots I want to eliminate but as soon as is released, nothing happens or changes.

Hi Helen,

if your 'line drawing' is a bitmap image, the eraser will not work with it at all (or will delete the whole thing, depending on your settings in the tool bar). You will first need to convert it into a vector object, or you can use a clipping to hide parts.

If it is a vector image, play with the settings for width to get a different outcome.
It may be that the holes the eraser makes are just too small to see.

Often, it is much more precise to just delete the nodes you do not want in your drawing (node tool/F1, then select an object, then a node, then hit del), or to use one of the Boolean operations (like Path -> Difference) to obtain the desired result.
