Ocean wave symmetry

Can Inkscape create a figure similar to an ocean wave? Or perhaps take a geometric drawing and curl it into an ocean wave configuration?

Maybe you want something like this:

Or you want to use the spiral tool to create parts of the outline:

Or you just draw one ;) You could start with a triangle, maybe (Star tool with 3 corners) which you convert to a path...

There are so many possibilities, and so many ways you may want your result to look like...

Thanks for suggestions. I think your first one bight do it but it's going to take me awhile since I'm just beginning Inkscape.
