apply photo as fill

Asked by heather890

I am trying to fill a freeform shape with a picture of water. When I try to do this the entire rectangle fills up with the water not just my freeform shape. Help!

Hi heather890,

Inkscape allows to set flat colors, gradients and patterns as fills of a shape.

What you can do is convert the photo (or almost anything, really) to a pattern, and then fill your shape with that pattern.

See here: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Attributes-Fill-Stroke.html#Attributes-Patterns
(if I understand your intention correctly and something like the example picture with the car is what you want.)

 Maren
