Cannot vertically (perfectly) align text

Asked by Tom Tofield

I cannot align perfectly the following text inside a text box. The "à" between the times are never exactly aligned with each other and the same applies to the "0" and "1" of "09" and "16" respectively:

Heures d'ouverture:

                                    Mardi à vendredi: 16:00 à 18:00
                                    Samedi: 09:00 à 11:00
                                    Lundi, dimanche: Fermé

Hi,

it's because you're not using a fixed width font, i.e. the '8' in 18:00 is wider than the '1' in 11:00 next line.

You should either a) choose a fixed width font (which can not be pretty) or b) split your text into multiple text boxes. I'd go for a box containing :

Mardi à vendredi:
Samedi:
Lundi, dimanche:

with text aligned right, and another text box with

16:00 à 18:00
09:00 à 11:00
Fermé

with text aligned left. But it's a matter of personal preferences.

Thanks for the quick, precise and useful answer.

Is there a list of fixed-width fonts for Inkscape?

The fonts used by Inkscape are your system fonts, so if you want a fixed width font, choose something like Lucida sans or Courrier New (assuming you're on a win PC), or go to any font site and look for monospaced fonts.
