My mouse cursor display isn't in sync with where it actually draws.

Asked by DJM

I am brand new to Inkscape and cannot begin working with it. Let me try to explain my problem: When I draw a shape or text box, it doesn't show up in the same place where my mouse cursor is. If I click in one place, the shape will show up a few inches below and to the left of where I clicked. This makes it nearly impossible to select or move an object. Also, when I'm not clicking and I just move the mouse cursor around, the little triangles on the ruler that show where you are aren't accurate, again it's a few inches off from where the cursor actually is. This is hard to explain but can somebody please help me?

I don't know what can it be... I have never heard of something like that. You can start by providing Inkscape version and your OS and OS version.

I was using Inkscape 0.45 with Windows XP. I just noticed the 0.46 update and downloaded that, and I'm still having the same problem. Thanks in advance for your help!

Does that mismatch occur only in the drawing, and not on the toolbars? I presume this only happens in Inkscape and you don't have cursor problems with other software.

What kind of a mouse have you got? Maybe its driver is buggy, does it have cursor calibration options?

Okay, I can use it now. I usually use the mouse on my Wacom Intuos3 tablet, but I just figured out that it works fine when I use the pen rather than the mouse, so I guess I'll just have to use the pen as my sole input device when I'm working in Inkscape. I'm still not sure why it's happening, but at least now I can work around it. Thanks for trying to help me!

its the tablet then thats causing the problem, I don't have experience with those so I don't know exactly how to fix this, but its probably in the tablet driver or tablet options.

I'm having the same problem.

When the I use the Intuos 3 mouse the cursor and tool icon don't line up. When I use the pen then they do... why?

I had this problem, but it affected my pen instead. It was solved when i realised that i was using a widescreen moitor that i had divided into two windows, its called magic screen or something.. soon as i changed the screen to no divisions. just one whole window occupying the whole screen, the problem disappeared
