No ABC filter in application at all

Asked by Kacey

After searching the application to find the filter black outline in the ABC filter box, I was unable to find the filter anywhere. Not sure if its a bug or just a fluke in the download. But there is no ABC filters in my copy of InkScape

Not a bug, nor a failed download - the predefined filter effects in Inkscape 0.91 had been reworked, see
* http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Release_notes/0.91#Filters
* http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/SpecCustomPredefinedFilters

Since this release is still rather new, there is no new manual or other documentation available yet.

This sucks!
I wish you guys would not have killed the menu.

So according to your answer/links above and the release notes - this is "normal" to takeaway functionalities?
I cannot find the filters anywhere else, that's BS imho.

PLEASE RE-INSTATE THE ABC'S MENU, we all love it and it belongs there.

Best regards

Eric

Hi,
jfyi, in imho the h means humble.

"Black outline" is about the morphology of the shape you're editing, so look in "morphology", then you'll find 'outline'. There, you can make an outline, just like you want, and the color you want. So, if you want a black outline, just select the color black.

This is not a "removal" of functionality, it's still there, but we have *added* functionalities, and reorganized them to add coherence : "ABC" is not a type of filter, and previously someone who looked for making a non-obvious outline by going to "morphology" because he thought he wanted a morphology filter, should have thought "eh, the change i want is somehow arbitrarily categorized as 'ABC' because reasons, so it's obviously not in its category", so this is fixed now, they are sorted by type, not by "somewhat simple, all mixed up as ABC" vs "advanced, sorted by type"

OK, I'll eat the humble pie.
You are ultimately going to piss off users anytime you make a change, that's a given.
But it sure looks like you removed functionality, now we have to go looking for it somewhere else.

For example what about "feathering", was that not in the ABC menu too?
Now it's somewhere else too, gotta find that too, fun, gotta "re-learn" everything now that it was working fine.

I work at a huge corporation, every week the IT guys send out a mail to all 20k employees "we just IMPROVED our company website" -- 20k employees are now severely pissed because it was not an improvement, they just hid the buttons behind more pulldown menus. It's a running gag that costs bucks in lost time.

New users will not notice,
old users (me) get pissed.

Take your pick

Thanks for the quick answer!

E.
