Cordinate/Width/Height entry issue

Asked by Dave

When entering a shape or line, and you want to edit the Cordinate/Width/Height tab, how do you select the Integer number and the decimal place number together?
ie:-
1)Sketch a square using 'Rectangle Tool'
2)Tabs are then available for changing the Width and Height of the rectangle.
3)In similar drawing packages, I would normally expect to double click on the Width/Height tab and enter the wanted size, and then 'enter' to select. In Inkscape I appear to have to select Width/Height tab and then 'drag mouse' to include the Integer and decimal part of the wanted number. Is this correct or is there another way of doing this?

If there is no 'other way' of selecting, from my point of view a 'Double Click' on the mouse would be preferable to the 'Drag' option (more intuitive ?).

Hi Dave,

I must admit I never even tried to double-click into that field... I think there might be a reason for this behaviour, like not being able to accidentally delete the whole number, or something in that direction.

You could make your idea a feature request, if it isn't already there. Then the developers can make that design decision together, or explain the reasoning behind it, if they don't want to change the behaviour.

I think double-clicking to have the whole number selected isn't a bad idea, but I'm not a developer, and not even a power user ;)

Regards,
 Maren

This works for me: tripple-click to select all.

There's also 'Alt+X' - while focus is still on-canvas, this keyboard shortcut will move focus to the first entry in the controls bar of the current tool (and select aka highlight) all content of that first entry).

Cool! Alt+X is documented, but triple-click isn't, as far as I could see. Should it be documented?

Might be a Gtk+ thing, didn't attempt to figure out ...

I don't know either, but it's pretty common : double click to select word (and dots or commas are word separators -maybe that can be changed somewhere-), triple click to select lines or sentences, (and sometimes 4 clicks to select paragrahps), but it's usually the same behavior in all text fields in all apps...

Thanks to all of you who replied, yes the '3 clicks' on the mouse did what I wanted, now feel a bit foolish about not finding it myself!
