adding a colour border around an image

Can i add a colour border around an image, I have a country map and wish to have a thick coloured border around the outskirt

Hi Peter,

supposing that your map is rectangular:

1. make a rectangle (F4)
2. open the fill and stroke dialog (Shift+Ctrl+F)
3. set no fill color (click on the X in the first tab)
4. set a border color in the second tab
5. set a border width in the third tab.
6. Copy the size of your map over to the rectangle (Ctr+C on the map, Edit-> Insert size -> Insert size on the rectangle)
7. Align the rectangle with the map (group map with Ctrl+G, then open Align dialog with Shift+Ctrl+A, then align them horizontally and vertically.

Also note that there are tutorials for Inkscape inside the program. Find them in the Help menu.

Just to clarify - with English interface language, the menu item is called 'Edit > Paste size' (not 'Edit > Insert size').
