default document properties

Asked by Bob

I would like to change the document properties in Inkscape to my own preferences. How can I do that. I tried to "save as" to the default.svg file in the Inkscape program, but I was denied access. It said I needed administrator approval. How do I get that? I am using Windows 8.1 and Inkscape 0.91. Surly there is a simpler way.

Hi Bob,

it seems that there is also a default.svg file in a folder which belongs to you (at least that was the case for WinXP).

It's C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\Inkscape\templates

Try overwriting the default.svg file there instead of the main one.
If you are using a localized version of Inkscape, you need to name the file default.[language-abbreviation].svg

For the question how to get admin rights on Windows, please refer to the Windows documentation. MS answered the question here, for example: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-security/no-administrator-rights-on-windows-8-or-windows-81/58575911-e009-408b-a6ea-f980d9295888 .
