Where do the Effect > Render > Barcode barcodes go?

Asked by librarian

I want to generate an EAN-8 barcode. I have a blank document. I go to Effects > Render > Barcode > Classic... > Barcode Type: EAN8 > Barcode Data: 73577357 > Apply

But no barcode appears. Where's the barcode?

My particular problem seems to be I can't get *any* extensions to work, e.g., Text > Lorem ipsum doesn't render anything either.

Please provide information about OS/platform and Inkscape version (see Inkscape menu 'Help > About Inkscape').

The problem appears to be with this particular installation of Inkscape 0.91. I have a similar computer (Win 7) that runs the Extensions just fine. I attempted to repair the installation on the problem machine to no avail.

With Inkscape 0.91 r13725 (on OS X 10.7.4), the extension returns this message for EAN8 and '73577357':

Error encoding '73577357' as ean8 barcode: Checksum failed, omit for new sum
No barcode was generated

The barcode can be generated with '7357735' successfully:

The problem was not the improper check digit was causing the extension to fail but instead the extension - and perhaps the program - just were not installed properly.

That being said - thanks! I'll post another tangential question soon...
