Resizing a vertical line results in skewing the line

Asked by Hachmann

Hi,

I know trying this makes absolutely no sense, but it yields unexpected (for me) results with the file I uploaded here: http://staging.inkscape.org/en/gallery/item/20/

1) select one of the vertical lines or make a new one, using bezier tool (horizontal/vertical straight line mode).
2) pull on the transform handles which stretch it in horizontal direction, with the button for 'resizing stroke width' turned off.
3) see strange shape during transformation (much wider than it should be)
4) repeat this once or twice, and note how the line is skewed - if I pull to the right, the upper node is offset to the right.

I wasn't able to reproduce this with a new file, so there must be something weird about this one. It was originally built upon this file: https://openclipart.org/detail/215868/Awesome%20Tux, don't remember if I copied the penguin in or just opened the file and continued editing.

(afterwards I chose 'stroke to path' - pulling on lines isn't exactly a smart idea ;) )

Btw. is there a way to get rid of those annoying uniconvertor popup windows? They were always there, and I've somehow gotten used to them popping up in unexpected moments, but it seems they have become more frequent in 0.91 (Uniconvertor failed messages, something about there being no layer for the script to work on, without any consequence, three times in a row, at least. I feel like a Windows user clicking away popups for EULAs...).
I don't know how to reproduce them intentionally (which is why I never made / commented on a bug report about them), but they seem related to switching between different programs, mostly. What's new is that now sometimes there's also a small window with a drawing popping up for a split second...

(Inkscape 0.91, LM17.1, XFCE)

Switch to a different desktop, or disable custom clipboard managers, or
download managers which monitor the clipboard, while working with Inkscape:

* Bug #418242 “Incorrect call to output plugins (with persistent e...”
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/418242

The report lists a few of the known applications which may trigger this
issue.

As far as I understand by now (there's a similar issue with GTK+/Quartz
builds on quit), inkscape is requested - by an external app - to provide
all (or many) output formats of its content on the clipboard; but not
all output extensions can process the format of the temporary SVG
document holding the clipboard content (it is a valid SVG document but
for example lacks inkscape layers) successfully, among them apparently
those based on UniConvertor.

Thank you, suv. I have nothing to deactivate, unfortunately. The only processes with xfce-prefix running are these: xfce4-session, xfce4-panel, xfce4-power-man, xfce4-volumed - which can't be killed without killing some important functionality. No Java programs, no dl managers, no separate clipboard managers, no nothing... and I like my desktop, it's lean. But also, this only happens once or twice a day - and it's not destructive, just annoying ;)

And it's not directly on copy, like that bug report you linked to. Often I switch to another application, and then, some time later, this just pops up...

I'm not aware of known similar bugs - maybe you could keep an eye on it?
(what interaction might trigger it - whether it depends on what was last
copied in Inkscape, or the content of the current file, or other actions
outside of inkscape ... etc.). Sorry for not being able to provide
further help ...

(I could share a patch which forcefully silences output extensions when
processing an inkscape clipboard content (modifies inkex.py and other
scripts), but that's a rather hackish solution (in use for osxmenu
builds) - it would be helpful to know what might trigger it beyond the
usual culprits, and then finally someone could implement a solution
internally (C++) to make output extensions fail silently when processing
inkscape's clipboard content (don't prompt with messages from stderr).

Thank you, suv, I'll try and collect them, and hopefully, I'll see a pattern emerge.
Just silencing them without knowing the cause doesn't seem like a good solution to me, either ;)

Is there a way to make Inkscape output which process has asked it to run the output extensions?
(This also seems to generate files (*.inx...?) in my /tmp directory, I noticed, so those are probably the contents of the little window which pops up for a split second)

(And those vertical lines...?)

Sorry - haven't looked at the file yet (it's downloaded though, for
further inspection). Been busy with other reports, and at the moment I'm
relaxing a bit while working on other things, for example new symbol sets:

Relaxing while working on symbols... :) You got me wondering if there's an 'Om' among them, now ;)
I didn't mean to hurry you, and you probably know that ;) I just thought that the original subject might have drowned by now...

Can you help with this problem?
