Using Trace bitmap

Asked by SteveG

When using Trace bitmap function, the resulting output is an outline of the source (I know Potrace doesnt have a centerline option - Autotrace does).
My question is - is it possible to tell inkscape to replace the outlines (which are showing fill between them), and make the fill a stroke ?

As an example, if a circle is traced (think ring lying flat), it will return an outer and inner path with fill between. I would like to end up with a single path at
the point of the current fill (imitate centerline tracing)

Thanks

One way would be to use the Edge Detection tracing method, then break apart the resulting path and delete one of the edges (inner or outer), then scale. However, this is only a workaround for this particular case and if I understand correctly what you intend to do there is no way to do that automatically, until Potrace implements centerline tracing.

Thanks Chris - I believe this will get me out of trouble in the short term.
The Potrace site says it probably wont ever implement centerline tracing (done differently in calcs) and recommends Autotrace.
Unfortunately I'm using Windows, and Autotrace is not implemented within Inkscape as yet (will probably be coming though)

Thanks for your time :)

Hey Chris
When I use the Path>break apart the image goes black and there are multiple lines and I cant move them or delete them. i am a novice so it may be a stupid question.
Thanks
