Inkscape will not launch on either of my MacBook Pros - Snow Leopard or Yosemite

I hit the application on either of my MacBook Pros, one with Snow Leopard and one with Yosemite and nothing happens. It used to work fine on my Snow Leopard laptop, but if at all, only a few times on the Yosemite laptop. I have tried deleting Inkscape and reinstalling, but with no results.

Did you follow the instructions on the MacOS download page, and install XQuartz (and reboot or log out and back in to properly finish the installation of XQuartz) before installing Inkscape?

Additional notes:

1) If you upgraded an older OS X installation to Yosemite you need to reinstall XQuartz even if you had it already installed on the old system (because the upgrade procedure removes some of the needed files).

2) In case you use an external monitor connected to your laptop with Yosemite installed, you might encounter a known issue (XQuartz not compatible with how Apple changed the configuration of multi-screen setups with regard to 'Spaces'):

This incompatibility between XQuartz and OS X may cause Inkscape windows to open "in-between" spaces, and thus not being directly accessible. A recommended workaround in such cases is to turn off "Displays have separate spaces" in Mission Control (if you need to use X11 across multiple displays).

Thank you. I believe I did follow the instructions, but I will try again tonight. As for the Yosemite laptop, I do use an external monitor in my work environment, but I only use inkscape at home, where I do not use the mirror setup. Would that still affect it?
