cut out shape appears under shirt

Asked by Jayne

I am trying to cut out the neck line of my shirt. When I drag the shape to my shirt it appears under the shirt instead of on top. It won't let me cut anything out.

Hi Jayne,

the order in which shapes appear above one another in Inkscape is called z-order. Imagine this to be a stack of some kind.

You can change an object's z-order by selecting it and then using one of these keys:

Home raise selection to top
End lower selection to bottom
PgUp raise selection one step
PgDn lower selection one step

or use the buttons which look like a stack in the tool bar of the selection tool (3rd button set). It may be that you need to ungroup a selection to be able to insert something into that part of the stack.

Probably you might also be interested in the tutorials included in Inkscape. You can find them in the Help menu.

 Maren
