printed colours not the same colour as i see on screen

Asked by gemma

hi,

when i print purples pinks or reds the colour does not match the colour i see on screen. i understand there is a difference between programs & printers - i am using an oki c711 printer.

i have had a look at the oki troubleshooting & have downloaded their "Color Correct Utility - Version 2.18.1 (ENGLISH)"
from this link http://www.oki.co.uk/support/printer/printer-drivers/results.aspx?prodid=tcm:122-95647-16&search=1&OSId=Windows%207&languageId=ENGLISH&type=%7cUtilities

however now im stuck, i do not understand how to use it or how to link it with inkscape or if this is even the correct way to fix my issue.

the printing issue is only with purple pink & red. can someone please help me?

i am not computer savy at all so please if you are able to help or know the answer- idiot explaining 1, 2 ,3 would be so appreciated!

thank you fr your time.

Hi Gemma,

unfortunately, there is no idiot-proof quick solution for this. Color management is a complex topic and the concrete steps depend very much on your operating system, your hardware and how much money you want to spend to get the desired result.

This probably has nothing to do with Inkscape but is a problem of your screen and your printer outputting different colors.

To do this absolutely right, you'd need a device to measure your screen's color and one to measure the colors your printer prints. These devices can be quite expensive.

The program you downloaded tries to replace those two devices by your eyes.

The instructions for the program say:
1. Step: print color table
2. Step: select color from print
3. Step: enter color values in the application

So I guess you need to install the software, start it, and then follow these instructions. This will fix the colors system wide, as good as your eyes can do the job.

Regards,
 Maren
