Question about Inkscape Help

Asked by sharpart

I wish the Help was searchable. I am using Inkscape .48. If interested, I am willing to offer my time as a technical writer to help create compiled Help or Web Help.

ALSO, I tried to log into the Inkscape Wiki and join the discussion but have not been able to do that. (http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/User_manual_information ) It looks like it is only for ADMINISTRATORS.

Not exactly sure which 'Help' you are referring to (Inkscape's Help menu has a link to the online-version of the Inkscape manual as well as several tutorials (shipped with Inkscape)). Note that the linked-to Inkscape manual is maintained by an individual person, and does have certain license restrictions:
http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

As a first step, I would recommend to subscribe to the mailing list 'inkscape-docs' mentioned on the wiki page you already found:
 http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/User_manual_information#Contribute
 https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/inkscape-docs
and join (or open) the discussion about current and future Inkscape manual (or help) there.

The mailing list 'inkscape-docs' was recently "revived" since the recent re-design of the inkscape.org web site also brings along new challenges for the content hosted there:

Mailing list archive for 'inkscape-docs' (the one at sf.net is not searchable):

The Inkscape wiki account registration had to be closed due to excessive spam - you can ask on the inkscape-devel list for an account. Note though that the wiki is less used for "discussion" per se: mailing lists are usually preferred. Pages in the wiki can help to document whatever outcome such discussions have, or provide further instructions.

Mailing lists (inkscape-devel):

Thanks, suv. I have registered for the inkscape-devel mailing list. I'll pose my request/offer there.
