rectangle on opening page

Asked by Irl Cramer

I have been using inkscape (at a novice level) for creating text only.

My computer just went into the shop and I am using another machine with same OS. (windows 7, 64 bit).

So I downloaded inkscape for the new machine and it looks like what I am used to. However, when I open a new session, the screen
contains a rectangle composed of lines. (not filled in).

I cannot make it go away or change its size. So it is in the way.

How do I make it disappear so I can get on with my work?

By the way, Inkscape is a tremendously useful tool for me. Out of appreciation, I bought the guidebook, but I would like to support you financially in some other way....I think I am getting a lot and giving nothing. Is there a way to contribute to your organization?

Hi,

Do you speak about the page ? It represents the area that will actually show up in svg renderers like web browsers. You can change its size (or check a box to stop seeing it) in file->document properties

As for donations : https://inkscape.org/en/support-us/donate/
or you can also donate more specifically for the upcoming hackfest : https://inkscape.org/en/support-us/hackfest/

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Irl Cramer for more information if necessary.
