Document Properties dialogue box will not appear

Asked by Nick Stevens

I am trying to edit the document properties in inkspace and the dialogue box for document properties will not appear. I have tried the keyboard shortcut, the menu button, and the drop down menu link.

If I mess with the global properties, as in do anything there, and hit ok, it appears but when I restart the program I can't get it to appear again without repeating those steps.

Could you please share which OS/platform you are using, and which Inkscape version (see Inkscape menu 'Help > About Inkscape').

Which 'global properties' are you referring to?

I am using Inkscape v. 0.91 on a Windows 7 machine. The problem has seemed to correct itself upon changing dialogue behavior in the Preferences dialogue from 'dockable' to 'floating'.

What version of Windows 7? 32bit or 64bit? Also, if you're using Windows 7 64bit, which flavor of Inkscape 0.91 are you using (32bit or 64bit)?

Can't duplicate here on my copy of Windows 7 x64 w/ Inkscape 0.91 r13725 x64 with a fresh profile, or my current profile. The Document Properties window opens with no problems.

This might be a profile bug on your end. Try doing the following to see if it fixes the problem for you:

1. Go to the following folder in Windows Explorer: E:\Users\<your user name here>\AppData\Roaming
2. Rename the folder called 'inkscape' to 'inkscape1'. (this is in case you want to restore your old profile if needed)
3. Now start Inkscape.

This will start Inkscape with a fresh profile. This should force the "Document Properties" window to show up for sure.

That should be "C:\Users\<your user name here>\AppData\Roaming", not 'E'. Have my system configured a tad different since my main OS drive is an SSD and I keep my user profile on a normal HD.

Hopefully you didn't do what I did. I am using windows 64 and inkscape .91.
I was having the same problem so I thought. I have 2 monitors, my second monitor is not always on. After uninstalling and reinstalling several times I finally turned on my second monitor and there it was. Sounds stupid I know but just want to let you know if you did it, your not the only one.

Thanks

Suddenly Document Properties dialogue box will not appear. Here is my system info:
osx 10.11.6
13" macbook
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Inkscape .91
XQuartz 2.7.11

I've also tried deep de-installing both Inkscape and XQuartz; then, doing a fresh install of both. No success.

Same problem - no dialog appears when select File > Document Properties.
Was using Inkscape 0.48 32 bit Windows
Had not noticed this problem before.
Recently installed 4th screen on system. I suspect the dialog was positioned wrongly so not visible on any of them.
Uninstalled Inkscape and installed version 0.91 64 bit.
Same problem

Solution
Edit > Preferences > Interface > Windows > Dialog behaviour
Change from Dockable to Floating
Restart Inkscape
Now dialog appears but all dialogs are floating.
Reset above parameter to Dockable
Now Document Properties dialog is visible, although still floating even though others are dockable.
