colors not showing up when you draw circle or rectangles etc

Asked by jagmint

Hi,

when i use the rectangle, circle, star or spiral tool from the left toolbar to draw, it draws as a transparent object. But the stroke and fill box that you see in the bottom left corner as well as the top right corner show the colors i select but they fail to get applied to the object i draw. Seems a very silly problem maybe i have missed something. Please tell me as soon as possible what has gone wrong. I am in a middle of a project and i need to get it completed. I deeply thank you developers and people who help and very grateful for your services...thanks a lot

I have not used any layers visibility or any other complex options. just simply select the rectangle tool and draw and the object draws! but the color and the fill/stroke are transparent even though the fill and stroke properties dialogue box has colors selected.

Well, if we could look at your SVG file, we could tell you really quickly what's happening. Unfortunately, there's no way to do that in this forum. So we'll have to play a guessing game.

Have you used any clipping or masking? Are you working with Groups or Clones? Have you changed the opacity of any Layers ( which is different from visibility)? Have you changed the opacity of any objects? (Opacity is different from the alpha value.)

Here's a tutorial I wrote that will take you through a few steps, to check all the usual suspects, when we hear this problem.

If you really are in too much of a hurry for Q and A and back and forth and back, you might want to consider posting in a regular bulletin board style forum (list here: https://inkscape.org/en/community/) or posting in the user mailing list (info here: https://inkscape.org/en/community/mailing-lists/). Then we can look at your file, and hopefully get you back in business with your drawing.

You are a genius! a knight in the shining armor! you solved my problem. I had opacity turned to 0.0 (what a fool am i!), now after turning it to 100% i can see colors........my vision has returned..haha. thanks for your help. I never expected such quick response to problems. I couldn't get to computer for some reasons and so the delay..

Thank you once again genius!
