multi lines in textbox doesn't always stick

Asked by Sidney Higa

In a text box I type a line and add a line return. In Inkscape, it looks fine. The text flows down. But when I view it in a browser, the line is back to one line--overflowing the space for it. I end up making two textboxes which is a real pain. Is this expected? There must be a better way.
Thanks,
Sid

Hi Sidney,

Depends on the 'textbox' you used. If you only clicked on the page and then started to type: no this is not expected.

If you dragged the mouse to create a bigger box, then you are using the flowtext feature of Inkscape: This is expected to behave weird. (although for me, I don't see *any* text at all)
The flow text in the current Inkscape version only works inside Inkscape (and you can export to png or to pdf, of course).

You need to select the text, then in the main menu, choose Text -> Turn into normal text (or similar, I'm using the German version).

Thanks for the answer Maren.

I was using the "Text and Font" dialog box to enter text, including line breaks. (Use the node tool to select, hit Shift+Ctrl+T). That was were I had trouble. But I've now found the "right" way to do this.

I select the text with the node tool, then switch to the Text tool. Line breaks persist into the browser view.
