where is the svg code page in INkscape where i can paste, add my existing code to?

Asked by juliette

After i create a new document in INkscape, where is the svg code page where i can paste,
add my pre-existing code i have (which INkscape will translate into graphics)?

I created graphics writing svg code on the w3school website and I copied and pasted
this code onto a text editor on the mac (with .rtf extension).
INkscape doesn't want to open it. I tried changing the file extension to .svg (instead
of .rtf), it still refuses to open it.
Where is the behind the scene code for a document i create in INkscape please?
I looked under the Edit and View menu, but could not find it. I found an xml editor
under the Edit menu, but it doesnt' let me add existing svg code to it.

Please help! i really need to work on this one this morning. Thanks!

Inkscape doesn't have such a feature - you can use the built-in XML
Editor (but not via simple copy&paste from an RTF file). More
information about using the XML Editor can be found in the manual:

Make sure that OS X didn't keep the *.rtf extension (hidden) - it does
this for known file formats, check the renamed RTF file with 'File > Get
Info' in the Finder.

Open the Inkscape SVG file in a plain-text editor (e.g. TextWrangler,
Sublime Text, or MacVim) to study the SVG source created by Inkscape.

Thanks for your swift response and answers to my questions.

I checked the renamed *.rtf file (to *.svg extension) with 'File. Get Info.
OS X did change its extension to *.svg, yet Inkscape is unable to open it.

So I am just going to redraw the whole thing.

Can you help with this problem?
