Copy paste elements

How to copy element (ex. rectangle) in image "1" and paste it in image "2".
Normal copy-paste (in menu) not work.

This is a long-standing bug. The workaround is to open the first image and then open the second image using the "Open" menu item in the opened Inkscape window, instead of opening the second image via Explorer. Copying and pasting between images will then work.

I am trying to copy an image after I scanned it and imported it in Inkscape. But when I ctrl A it and select all, the copy image does not become highlighted. The program does not allow me to copy the image to notebook and later paste it in another program. Can I not do this?
Please help.
