the effects dont do anything on the image.

the effects don't take place. The image(jpg.) remains unchanged.

Hi Lionel,

it seems you are trying to apply svg filter effects on a raster image.
This does not work as the underlying structure of the image is totally different ;)

In the extensions menu, you can find some effects for raster images, though.

If you are looking for a program for editing raster graphics, Inkscape may not be the best choice, and I suggest you take a look at gimp, for example.

and sorry! - I just learnt that (some?) of the effects are indeed supposed to work on raster images inside an svg graphic (http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Filters-Preset.html).

Putting a filter on a raster image inside an svg does not change the raster image itself. The information about this is saved in the svg file.

Only when you export the filtered picture from the svg to a raster image again, you will get a raster image which shows the filter effect.
