Change rulers scale

Asked by Peter

Is there a way of changing the scale of the rulers? I am wanting to draw a landscape plan of a paved area that uses 600mm x 600mm pavers so to fit this onto an A4 sheet I need to change the scale of the rulers to be much smaller than the sheet of A4. In CorelDraw I would use Options/Document/Rulers/Edit Scale and change the page to world distance ratio.

Hi Peter,

If you really want the rulers to show the same measurements as in the real world, you need to change the document size and the default document units (you can even choose Meter) in the document settings to fit reality (or reality divided by a constant, aka scale of the document, as in maps).

You can always print smaller (or bigger) than in real world units, this is just a matter of using the printer dialog correctly (usually, there is a 'fit to page' option).
If you want to export to pdf directly from inkscape, you may need to resize your document and its contents before export, so the size in your pdf will really be A4 (and not 6x6m, which may irritate customers).

I don't know of a way to have the rulers show different units than the ones which are actually used in Inkscape.

 Maren
