Mouse clicks "stick" and numbers increase dramatically

Asked by Dave Whitinger

This happens very frequently to me. I am working on an inkscape image and I want to change some of the settings for the object I'm working on.

So for example, I click on the "stars and polygons" tool and draw a star. But then I want to change the number of corners. So I go to the corners section of the menu bar and click the up arrow one time. This increments the number from 5 to 6. I click again and now it is 7. I click once more and it explodes into action and increments the count until it reaches the maximum of 1024 corners. At that point I'm stuck and can't decrease the count. Clicks don't work anymore unless I click into the image window.

It is inconsistent. Sometimes I can click only once before it does it. Other times I am able to click 5 or 6 times before it happens.

I have tried logging in to my system as a different user using a different window manager and get the same result.

Has anyone seen this before? And what can I do to stop it?

This is inkscape 0.48 on Fedora 20 with fluxbox as the window manager. Also tried it logged in as root under gnome 3.

The description sounds very similar to this known issue:
- Bug #1164150 “Blocking when double clicking on the spinner widget”
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1164150
(see also duplicate report bug #1205410).

The issue is on the radar - to be discussed with GTK+ devs at a planned hackfest next year:

You're right, that's my exact issue. I didn't realize it was a double-click that was triggering it. That explains why it's inconsistent. If I wait sufficiently long between clicks, then the spinner does not go out of control. Hopefully the GTK+ devs can figure out what is causing this.

Thanks for answering my question, suv.
