How do I import a new font from Ubuntu?

I have a new font downloaded on my Ubuntu machine and would like to bring it over to inkscape for a project I'm working on. How do I go about that?

Hi Hamish,

just install the font you have downloaded (on Ubuntu, double-click on the font file and choose 'install' - http://howtoubuntu.org/how-to-install-fonts-in-ubuntu).
Then you can either:
- restart your computer or
- refresh your font cache (sudo fc-cache -f -v (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Fonts))

After this, (re)start Inkscape and the new font will be available.
