adding a n ellipse

Im trying to add an ellipse sphere to the top of a wine class to appear to be the opening of the wine glass. I deleted the top segment to add the sphere but it will not add one. i have clicked on the Ellipse tool and click and drag but it only draws a rectangle with dotted lines which do not stay. If you click enter it goes away and you cannot edit the rectangle with dotted lines.

Hi Mary,

your ellipse is probably transparent. To change this, select the invisible object by dragging the mouse over it. Then open the Fill and Stroke dialog (Ctrl+Shift+F) and set the color property 'A' (opacity) to its maximum value (255 or 100) and set the opacity slider at the bottom to 100%.
