Ungroup a block of text, select it , and move it . . how?

Asked by Saney

HI, I have a Column of text on the page, I would like to un-group it to break it up, select a portion of it and move that portion to another spot on the page. un group doesn't semm to have the desired effect, I can only move the entire column. 'Break apart' seems not to work either, or not in the way I expected.
another question , if I may . . . is there a tool to draw a grid of a specified number of rows or columns?

Thanks , in anticipation , for your attention.

Hi Saney,

1) There is one extension which can cut the text into editable text blocks, it uses line-breaks or words or letters as a signal where to cut: Extensions -> Text -> Separate(?) Text (German version here, sorry!)

If this does not do what you want, you need to copy the parts from you original text into new text blocks, if you want the text to be still editable afterwards.

2) In Extensions -> Render you will find several options to auto-generate grids. You may have to cut them to the right size, though. I tried one of those, and it automatically filled the whole page with a one-path grid.

You can also make your grid yourself by tiling clones of squares, or by making squares and arranging them in a grid form. Or by drawing a line, duplicating it as often as you like, arranging it so they all have the same distance, grouping that, making a copy, turning that copy by 90° and putting it over the first lines... There are so many ways to make a grid, some difficult, some clumsy, some easy to understand, some fast... ;-)
