Currently, you need to cut each object in your image to fit the new shape you want, or you can use a clipping mask (which is not always compatible with browsers and which still contains all the information from your image and thus has a bigger file size).

How to do it without mask:

1. Create a shape (probably a rectangle)
2. Put it on top of your image so that it covers everything you want to keep.
3. Turn it into a path if it isn't.

4. Duplicate it.
5. Select one of the paths in your image
6. Shift + Select your rectangle.
7. Press Ctrl + *

Repeat steps 4-7 until all paths in your drawing are cut to fit into the shape you want.

You can read about clipping in the manual: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Clip.html

Can you help with this problem?
