Unavailable font (replaced with sans)

Asked by Stimo

I wanted to edit on my Ubuntu computer a drawing I started on my W7 laptop.
This drawing includes Maiandra font texts. This font works fine with Windows version of Inkscape.

I imported my fonts collection (ttf only) from the laptop to the Ubuntu dedicated folder (personal hidden .fonts folder)
The operation didn't run smoothly as I had to make several attempts using different methods to have it working (I hesitated on which fonts folder I should use, then faced access rights problems).
In the end I succeeded : all my fonts are now available in text-editing softwares. Including Maiandra.

BUT as I opened my drawing, I discovered that the texts I formated with Maiandra appear in some sans font, although Inkscape's text tool sees them as Maiandra.

The Maiandra font appears in the text tool font selector, but the sample only displays little squares.

Maiandra is the only font with this problem. And I tested it in LibreOffice for example : it works fine.

I have absolutely no idea where the problem could come from, neither how to solve it : how can I have Maiandra available in my Ubuntu-Inkscape ?

Thank you

Try to copy the Maiandra.ttf file to /usr/share/fonts/truetype. You need superuser rights to do this, too. This will guarantee that the font is available for every user on your system.
Then reboot (this will rebuild the font cache, which could also be done via the terminal).

Or you just follow one of these tutorials about how to install a new font on your Ubuntu system:
