create transparent shape inside another shape

Asked by Ashley

I've drawn a square and filled it with a solid color. I would like to "cut" a transparent circle into the square. Any suggestions?

Use the path operations. Path -> Difference will be the best in your case.

1. Convert square to path.
2. Create circle.
3. Make sure the circle is in the correct place and is above the square.
4. Convert circle to path.
5. Select square and circle.
6. Use Path -> Difference.
7. Voila, your square has a hole ;-)
