printing bleed

Asked by Will Wollen

I'm designing an A5 flyer which needs a 3mm bleed when supplied to printers as a .pdf

When I create the pdf to print on an A4 size page the design is rammed up against the top left corner so the bleed only shows on the right and bottom edges. How can I get it to print in the centre of the pdf so that the bleed shows all they way round?

You could set a custom document size instead of using A4 for an A5 flyer. Just add 6mm to the width/height of A5 and you get a page which is exactly the size you are supposed to give to the printer.

Else, import the drawing into scribus and set the bleed there to get a printer-friendly version. This is my usual workflow, but you must know that depending on the version of pdf you need to create, you may not be allowed to use partial transparency and that Scribus does not support SVG filters.

Can you help with this problem?
