questions about upgrading to 48.5

Asked by andrea k

I have ver 0.48. I tried to update to 0.48.5.1.

When downloading .5.1, it said there is no uninstall for 48, and suggested saving it to another folder, which I did.

Can someone tell me the advances in the .5.1 version, or a place I can look this up?

I now have 2 versions on my pc. How do I get things set up to use the new version, and delete the older version?

Is there any risk to existing files doing this?

Is the update worth the effort for someone using basic features?

Hi Andrea,
you can take a look into the release notes at http://inkscape.org/en/news/2014/07/18/inkscape-0485-released/. As far as I know, the update takes care of many bugs, but does not introduce new features.

If you never had any problems with crashes and are not on OS/X, then the update might not bring many changes - but it also doesn't hurt, as it is deemed to be more stable.

You can check the version number of your inkscape by clicking on Help -> About, and then it is there at the top of the pop-up.

If you tell us what system you are on, we might be able to answer the other question regarding uninstalling the old version ;-)

The 'system' I mean is Windows + Version, Linux + distro or MacOS + Version - the operating system. It seems I wasn't clear about that, sorry!
