Multiple offset layers in conversion to .svg

Asked by Rich Okun

Hi - I am trying to create a .svg file from a .png file of a drawing I made - When I convert I also trace bit map and then UNGROUP (I have tried it with Ungroup as well but the software I use Easy Sketch Pro recomments ungrouped) -
I can see that there are 3 offset layers that show and they are offset enough to make the picture unusable as it overlays the colors and the pictures.
Is there a way to convert a .png to .svg without creating these multiple layers?
I am trying to create an animated drawing video.
Thank you

Hi,

could you post the settings you chose when vectorizing and describe the kind of picture you're trying to trace?

You could also take a look at the bitmap tracing tutorial:
http://inkscape.org/doc/tracing/tutorial-tracing.html , maybe this is already enough to set you on the right track ;-)

There is also an option at the bottom "Layer scans" (or something like that). Did you try to check/uncheck it and compare your results?

Keep in mind that bitmap tracing is automated, this often means that one still has to edit the result before publishing it. The tracer engine does not have any intelligence, for example, it only creates objects by color - one single object for one color. You would have to use Shift+Ctrl+K to separate the different shapes the one-color object consists of.

Hi and thank you for your help -
I fiddled around and found that by changing the order of my actions - ie ungroup before tracing a bit map that this solved my problem - I was following instructions exactly from an instructional video which had the order reversed and that caused the layers to separate within the map.
Solved.
