Do I have the latest version?

There is no 'Check for Update' button in my version. This query does not come up with an answer to my questions.

So how do I know I have the latest version?

Visit the help menu -> Info about Inkscape (or similar, German version here). The version number is shown in the popup.

If it says 0.48.5, you've got the latest version.
