which are the start and end keys on my keyboard

in the basic tutorial it says use the start and end keys on the keyboard.Where are they?

Do you mean this: "The two commands in the Object menu, Raise to Top (the Home key) and Lower to Bottom (the End key)"

On this picture, you can see where those keys are on a standard US keyboard. As you did not mention which keyboard you use, it is near impossible to help you...

The keys you are looking for are in the white block above the cursor keys. If your keyboard does only have the blue block (if its a small notepad or so), then you can use the mouse + the menu commands for this instead. You find those in the 'Object' menu.
