trying to separate and then save layers of an svg file

Asked by Christine Bell

I have an svg file that has a logo that has 4 colours in the logo. I want to separate the logo into 4 different files (one for each colour) and then save them as a new svg file to import into a program called sure cuts a lot to cut them on a cricut machine. I have figured out a way (might not be the right way) to separate them (delete what I do not want) and then save them into a folder on my desktop as an svg file). When I try to import them into the sure cuts a lot program, they import but they have lots of other lines (outlines of the original logo) covering them. What am I doing wrong?

The method you chose is simple and easy to use, so I won't recommend anything else.

It seems to me that you just didn't delete every unwanted part of the logo. Sometimes, there are shapes which are not visible, because they are transparent or white.

Go to the menu 'View' -> 'View mode' -> choose 'outline' (or similar, I have the German version here) to see the outline of every remaining object in your file. Delete everything which doesn't belong using the 'Del' key. Change back the viewing mode to normal. Save the file as 'pure svg' (not inkscape svg).
Hope this will do the trick for you!
