when left clicking on textI need to find A so I can type in a name. can't find "A"

Asked by Jim

I am trying to put text on the bottom of a photograph. The instructions I have are: Go to file, Export as. then pictures to heritage. type name into box. then export on bottom right, then export again. go to "Inkscape". Select file import, select file embed. click OK. click on text(A). I cannot find the"A" in text so I can continue.

To use the text tool, you are supposed to click on the button for the text tool. This button has a big 'T' on it, not an 'A', but I guess this is what the person meant.

The icon for the text tool in the toolbox to the left of the canvas actually is a big 'A' - the button with the big 'T' on the other hand opens the 'Text & Font' dialog, which is not the same as the text tool even though the dialog implements similar features to format a selected text object.

The text tool 'A' allows to create, interactively edit and format text objects directly on the canvas - the 'Text & Font' dialog ('T') is mainly used to format existing text objects - it shows a preview for the current settings of the font, and changes can be applied with a button press ('Apply') to the current selected text objects.

Well okay, for me it's a T. I made a screenshot to prove, but I can't upload it here. It's really there, believe me.

The KDE Oxygen theme changes the icon.

This is what Inkscape looks like with the Adwaita theme: http://i.imgur.com/ZaNCakF.png
