Need help with grayscale conversion

Asked by Chris Dees

Hi,
FYI, I am a bit of a noob so please forgive my ignorance if I am asking an elementary question. I have a grayscale tiff that I need to convert to a hard black and white silhouette to be used as a stencil. I will need to clean up some details manually afterward, but I can't figure out how to convert to hard B&W or if it is even possible in Inkscape. Can you help?

Thanks in advance,
-Chris

You can import the file into inkscape and then select the picture,
go to Path->Trace Bitmap and
then select the first radiobutton (something with brightness, sorry, German version here).
Play with the threshold value,
do a preview (button above the okay button), until it looks right.
Choose OK.

You could also turn the picture into plain black and white first, using a bitmap graphics editor like gimp.

Can you help with this problem?
